INNOVATION
Technology
What animates the effectiveness of the Lohmann Quitno team is our ability to be responsive to change and to utilize a variety of delivery methods to satisfy our clients’ needs. The use of technology to support, document and market our work gives us the real-time feedback we need to be responsive and flexible in a demanding marketplace.
FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
Originally conceived in 1984 as Lohmann Golf Designs, Inc., founder Bob Lohmann, ASGCA, started our firm from humble beginnings, operating as a one-man show out of his home office. The industry he encountered then was much like today: precious few new builds, highly renovation-centric, and ever more regional. As the industry ebbed and flowed, Bob continued to adapt and grow his firm to meet client demands while building an exceptional reputation for design excellence and superb customer service. In 2018, Bob elevated longtime associate, Todd Quitno, ASGCA, to Senior Vice President of Design, advancing the future direction of the company and officially changing its name to Lohmann Quitno Golf Course Architects, Inc.
STAYING TRUE WHILE MOVING FORWARD
As a firm, we stress the importance of detailed programming, smart design and accurate cost projection, specifically as they relate to the client’s return on investment. Bob learned these principles as a young designer with Ken Killian, ASGCA and Dick Nugent, ASGCA. Todd learned them here, from Bob — and that revenue-driven approach guides all of our work today. As a firm, we have a great handle on what the modern market requires, including the role of technology and social media. We’re excited for the future of the industry and our company’s role in improving and sustaining the game.
RESPONDING TO CHANGE
What animates our work at Lohmann Quitno is our ability and obligation to be responsive to changes in the industry, to new opportunities, and to utilize a variety of delivery methods to satisfy our clients’ needs. Navigating the nuances of good design, technology, regulatory requirements, multiple agency involvement, short delivery timelines and project marketing can be overwhelming for golf operators. As consulting architects, we’re constantly reviewing, revising and reporting, and it requires the ability to process and deliver information quickly to avoid delays. This is especially true in the field where the real decision-making ultimately happens. We love the in-the-dirt approach to design, it’s the most exciting part of our job, but it has to be supported by solid planning to ensure we are meeting a project’s long-term management and sustainability goals.
BUILDING ON SUCCESS
The creative process these days is as much about project implementation as it is design, especially within a very competitive and budget-minded industry. We’ve developed many successful, productive relationships with private clubs, municipalities and park districts across the central U.S. and we know what it takes to plan and build playable, maintainable and sustainable golf courses. Our design portfolio includes a great mixture of new course and redevelopment projects, giving us a broad range of experience in all golf demographics.
